I always add a picture to my blog posts because I feel like that makes them more interesting before you even start reading the post. To do so, one needs a camera. I currently have two ...
My first digital camera that wasn't just me borrowing from someone else was given to me by my ex's mom. All the instructions were in Japanese, which I speak some of, but not enough to figure out shashin instructions. So I just kind of winged it. It served me well from about 2006 to 2011. Until it just wasn't much interested in taking photos any longer. So fine, I went to Fry's and bought their cheapest camera. I don't recall the brand, suffice to say don't buy the cheapest one. It did have one feature I liked that I haven't found elswhere: it had a mode wherein you could take a non-flash photo followed immediately by a flash photo (or perhaps it was the other way around). It gave one the best of both worlds.
But I wound up back at Fry's when it simply wouldn't do what I asked of it (like actually flash when I wanted it to just flash) and bought a Samsung PL120 for maybe $20 more (I think like $120 total). My favorite feature about this camera, besides being small and light, is that it has a LCD screen on the front, meaning I can take selfies (with another person, of course) and we know where we are! It has served me well for the past couple of years.
Then, as one of our wedding presents, we received an Olympus Stylus Tough. We didn't have it on our registry or anything - close friends of ours decided we might want something a little more sturdy for our honeymoon. And they were right. This this is indeed Tough. We dropped it a couple times. I can also go underwater (although we have yet to try that). It takes HDMI video. What I really love is how fast it takes photos. No awkward waiting while everyone's smile starts to fade. It's bigger than my old camera, but I find myself still taking it to events.
I can recommend both if you're looking for a camera for anyone this holiday season. They provide different experiences, but they both take great pictures.
