I’ve been thinking a lot about restaurants lately. I’ve somehow become the de facto person to go to when trying to figure out where to go to dinner. I’ve done this for co-workers, friends, and acquaintances. Yesterday someone mentioned they couldn’t think of where to suggest for dinner with a friend, and immediately several appropriate (and inappropriate) choices came to mind (I don’t mean inappropriate like a strip joint, I mean inappropriate like a burger joint). So then I started thinking more, and before I knew it, I had a really long list of restaurants I recommended, restaurants I don’t care about, restaurants that are gone but I miss them, and restaurants that are totally overpriced for mediocre food.
And I’d like to share them with you. Because the way that I’ve started thinking about them is pretty OCD. I can categorize restaurants as ‘good’, ‘bad’, or ‘haven’t gone to’. Also, if I keep this list bottled up it’ll eat me alive, and won’t that be ironic.
Favorite restaurants!:
Paco’s Tacos: I always name Paco’s Taco’s as my favorite, though the strong feelings I have about that restaurant are less related to the food and more to the décor. Sure, they have homemade tortillas, great carnitas, and strong margaritas, but more importantly THEY HAVE TWO FISH TANKS! And somehow I always get seated next to them. They make me so happy. They’re familiar fish. One of them has a scar, and they’re exotic and they’re just the best. (For this same reason I love Bahooka, but that’s a different post). I held my 22nd birthday at Paco’s. I’ve been there with my ex, my roommate, a really awkward non-date, and of course with the bf.
Hmm . . . should I continue describing favorite restaurants or should I move on? Moving on would make this a more complete bl—WHO CARES?! LETS DO ANOTHER FAVORITE!
Three on Fourth: There’s something about the fact that this place is always empty that endears me to it. The first time I came here was with my ex, my friend Cl and my friend La. We had a great time. They had an impressive wine list. They had tasty, not-overpriced food. But most importantly, I noted that they had selected wine bottles half off on Mondays. So then my friend F and I started going on Mondays and we would get nice and liquored up and it was fun. But then F got busy with school, and I got broke and it’s been so long since we’ve gone it makes me sad. I think the last time we went was in the early fall of last year.
So here’s my new plan: get paid as much as I’m paid now to review restaurants. Spend free time exercising (‘cause it will be seriously necessary) and writing short stories.
So. Pay me now. :-)

Paco's Tacos! You took me there! Loved that place! So I'll be back in town back and fourth for A LOT of July! I'd love to see you before I head up permanently.
